The Metropolitan Education Center

For a period of five years (1974 - 1979) during court-ordered desegregation in Boston, the Planning Office for Urban Affairs housed the Metropolitan Education Center (MEC) funded through the Education Collaborative, Inc. The MEC was a voluntary desegregation program that utilized the resources of the city to educate urban and suburban youth together in programs that utilized the vast resources of Boston.
