The Planning Office has developed over 1,200 units of elderly housing where seniors live in dignity in homes they can afford as they age. POUA strives to integrate its elderly housing with the larger community, to include mixed-income units and provide supportive services. Since a central part of the mission is to serve homeless elders, we strive to include units for this population in all senior developments. In POUA's elderly and special needs developments, there is often a set-aside of resources and units for the most vulnerable and lowest-income people.

Noteworthy examples of the Planning Office's approach to elderly housing are St. John of God, an intergenerational campus that includes affordable assisted living, and St. Mary's and Riley House, both neighborhood-based and beautifully adapted historic school and convent buildings.

In addition to its elderly housing, the Planning Office has developed 74 units of small-scale special needs housing.
